Context

The Morgan Stanley and Oliver Wyman annual report brought together extensive research and insights developed by subject matter experts across both organizations. My role was to transform draft exhibits into publication-ready assets that met Morgan Stanley's rigorous visual and technical standards before being integrated into its publishing workflow.

The first time I collaborated on this project was in 2022. Rather than focusing only on producing the exhibits, I took the opportunity to understand the broader production system. Conversations with key stakeholders revealed recurring challenges in previous editions, including an execution process that required significant back and forth between teams. I then assessed the existing workflow, identified opportunities for improvement, and developed a deeper understanding of the technical requirements behind the production process.

That assessment allowed me to streamline the execution process by developing clearer templates, practical guidelines, and a more structured workflow. I also designed the system to be replicable, making it easier for future team members to execute the work consistently without relying on individual knowledge. The result was a more reliable production process, more consistent deliverables, and a smoother collaboration between teams.

Based on that experience, I was asked to support the 2023 edition of the report, where I further refined the process, enhanced the templates and guidelines, and continued improving the production system.

Impact

The process improvements introduced in 2022 became the foundation for the 2023 production workflow. By continuing to optimize the process, desktop publishing effort was reduced by approximately 30% compared to the previous year while maintaining the quality standards required for publication. Just as importantly, the templates and guidelines established a repeatable system that future teams could confidently adopt and build upon.
